Tiny update for all concerned users.
armycalc.com has just been moved to new, a lot faster web server.

This should fix the problem of very slow army lists generation.
Hopefully, all server side tasks that were killing the old machine will now work flawlessly.

New server software configuration have been briefly tested. If we missed anything and you will meet any technical /access problems, please report them. We are sorry in advance.

Using this occasion we would also like to inform you that there are some software works in progress. A small surprise is up to come.
Please keep in touch.

New version of online editor. (no replies)

As promised, armycalc have been updated with the new online editor.
You can see an example here: sandbox.
For now it have been tested under firefox 3.5 and newest safari browsers.

As this is a testing version, old editor is still available as usual.
You can use both perpendicular. All data is stored separately.
Rulesets have been manually converted to new format.
Example Ruleset have been updated to show editor features.

List of features of the new editor:

units images.

bonuses can have their own characteristics. Things like units champions or mounts can be easy implemented now.

validation on the fly. As you are editing an army the bottom panel will be updated with warnings and errors.

saving armies without reloading page.

changing army size limit while editing.

better organization of add-ons groups.

units list can be reordered using 'drag and drop' method.

foldable menu with available units.

it is a lot nicer than the previous one :)

Also new 'My Armies' section is available that works with new editor. This is a really cool and usable thing:

You can create folders to group your armies as you like.

Folders and armies tree can be modified using drag and drop interface. Use Your left mouse button to move armies from one place to another.

Use right mouse button to access content menu from which you can delete/rename armies/folders, download armies in different formats, etc.

Your tree is saved automatic each time you make a change. No need to reload page.

Both elements allow to download an army as a *.twa file.
You will be able to read this file in future version of ACE which is under development at the moment.

ArmyCalc is being prepared to switch all its components to new file format - TWR 2.0.
Most noticeable changes in new format are:

possibility to add images to units.

new standard provides a common way of saving armies. This will allow to save an army in any ArmyCalc application and open it in the other.

more flexibility and extensibility. Easier way to create complex combination of addons

To complete this complex operation following steps will be made:

online editor will be changed to a faster and nicer one. It is using the twr and twa files and is designed in a way that will allow to place the editor as a widget on any website.

online ruleset editor will be temporary closed! all existing rulesets and armies will be converted to new format.

ACE will be updated with support for new format and some extra features(like server communication).

microACE - later on an editor for mobile devices will be presented.

At the same time some visual improvements to armycalc.com will be made.

We will try to make all this changes without disabling any part of the system but you can still tread this news as a warning:)

We are glad to announce that another big milestone had just been reached. We have just updated the Army Editor to a totally new version containing a lot more of JavaScript.

This means no more annoying 'save unit', 'add unit' etc. buttons and waiting for page to reload. Just go to 'Your Armies' section and give it a try!

I think this is another large step but there is still a lot to do so ArmyCalc stays in BETA version. Don't get upset when something wont work as expected, just use the forums to report it and we will fix it as soon as possible.
Also some new testing rulesets had been published. Feel free to play with them in the editor.
